ABBY HANCOCK

Abby is a 23-year-old Journalism and Public Communications student at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and a producer for KTUU, the NBC affiliate in Anchorage, Alaska. She has been playing the piano since the age of four and is excited to bring her talent to the Miss America stage! In between school and a full-time job, Abby is a volunteer Area Representative for Youth For Understanding, a foreign exchange organization, and works hard to promote her platform Raising Global Citizens: The World Is Our Classroom. Her personal goal to promote global education is the result of many factors- being raised in a bi-cultural family, studying a foreign language and experiencing new cultures through travel. As Miss Alaska, Abby is also the state's good-will ambassador for the Children's Miracle Network, an organization that helps fund pediatric hospitals nation-wide, along with Alaska's own Children's Hospital at Providence. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, writing, cross-country skiing, shopping, baking and exploring the great outdoors that are unique to Alaska.
