My experience at Miss America's Outstanding Teen is one never to be forgotten. I will never forget the wonderful, determined, ambitious, and accomplished young ladies I met down there. I made friendships that will last a lifetime. I was able to do a photo shoot for dress designer Tony Bowls, which was such an amazing opportunity. Every day was filled with 8 hour rehearsals and events in the evening. The first time I felt the least bit of doubt, lack of confidence, or motivation I told myself that I was experiencing a once in a life time opportunity and there is nothing to complain about except for the blisters on my feet! From that moment on I took nothing for granted and made the most amazing memories.
My favorite stage of competition is talent. Wednesday night was my talent competition. During talent rehearsal that afternoon I was not sounding very good or performing well. I had my mom and myself a bit worried about how I would sound during the competition. As I was practicing backstage before my turn to go on stage Miss Missouri came back and leaned against the wall listening to me play. As I stopped she immediately asked if I would like her to pray with me. My eyes watered and I said yes, please do. We bowed our heads and she prayed every prayer I had tried to pray but couldn't find the right words. She said all the right ones, and more. When we were done it was time for me to perform. I walked on that stage with my head held high. I took a seat on the stool and sang my first note, after that I knew I had captured the entire audience. I had never performed so well in my life. I felt so blessed to have had the opportunity to perform on that stage. Having that feeling of accomplishment I knew then that I had successfully represented Alaska in the Miss America Outstanding Teen pageant.
To all of my family, friends, and sponsors, I can't thank you enough. To everyone who sent me letters and presents, thank you. You kept me going. Bonnie, I couldn't have asked for a better director/supporter then you. To my mom, you are so amazing with your many talents. You flew 12 hours with me to come support me after you have been sick for so long. You have put up with me and all my emotions since the beginning. Thank you.
To everyone who has shown me love and support, thank you.
